I know this ins't the right place to ask this question, but hey! It’s my playground

I’m trying to work out a song on acoustic for Church and ill be darned if I can figure out the acoustic intro, its simple strumming, but my ear is NO were near as good as it once was.
I have asked on other player forums, but I generally get little or no response, so I thought id ask my building brethren that KNOW how to play

If your able to lend a hand, or ear shoot me an email and ill send you the MP3.

Thanks in advance for any help
Lance

Terry, I think he only needs the intro.....I could do a tab on it if I had the music file, mp3 would work.

Mario's right, it's played on the recording in standard tuning, with a Kyser "Short cut" capo on 2nd fret, progression is D2 > A2 > G etc. Experiment with letting the E's and B strings ring out.

If you don't have the short cut capo you can play the chords below (till you get one :), they're a decent substitute. Remember to let the e's and b string ring out when you can.

Are you sure a shiortened capo was used? You can acheive the exact same E chord tone of your fingerings by using a full capo at the 2nd fret, and dropping both the first and sixth strings two steps(both down to D, then capo'd back to E...) and leaving the first string open, and onmly fretting the 2nd string, 3rd fret, and 3rd string, 2nd fret, all frets relative to the capo)regular D shape, minus the first string). You can also easily make that dimished chord by moving the 3rd fret, 2nd string back one to the 2nd fret as you do on a "e" part(in between cel and brate)

The A chord is now played 1st string, 5 frets up from the capo, 2nd string, 3rd fret(again, relative to the capo) and 6th string, 5 frets up, muting the 5th string. A person could also simply fret the 1st and 6th strings 5 frets up and mute the 5th string, but I like the sound of the 2nd string, 3rd fret in there.

The B chord is done by playing a hillbilly A chord shape, where you fret 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th strings, 2nd fret.

Thy're all simple chord shape we already know and love, and simple.

Give that a whirr.

Lots of ways to build them, and tons more ways to play them! <bg>Mario38799.0287847222

I tried it capo'd on the 2nd yesterday when I saw lances post and it sounded pretty close. I'm glad to see you think so, too Mario.
There's SO MUCH chorus and reverb on it its hard to distinguish it, but it was close.

I hadn't thought of that, Mario, I'll try it out.

In our church band, and contemporary praise & worship music in general, there's a lot of short cut capo action happening. IE: Chris Tomlin, David Crowder band, etc.

For several songs, I also use 2 capos, IE full capo on 2nd fret, short cut on 4th fret.

Experiment. it'll really open up your creativity if you've not tried it.

Now that you mention it, he did a concert at my church, and I don't recall... But I remember that black Gibsom guitar and his gotee

contemporary praise & worship music in general

Okay, ya'll would know better, for sure, since I'm not into worship music. I was just going by what my ear was telling me.

In playing, like in my guitar building, I always strive for the simplest method of acheiving a goal. I vividly recall bringing home a Gordon Lightfoot song book when I was starting to play, and in it were all these really bizzare chord shapes and even stranger chord names. A year or so later, I saw Gordon play, and he used a capo nearly all the time. D'uh! Whoever had transcribed the songs had transcribed it note for note, but hadn't accounted for the capo, thus, the complexe chord shapes. Once you slapped on a capo, everything made sense...

Yeah Mario, I remember a few songbooks like that too. I think you might be right too about how it was played. With all the noise around her with the kids n' stuff, it's a wonder I can even type!

Next thread!

Oh, it's no big deal. They do so much of the same stuff, you know? Dave
kind of has a different vibe going on though. He's really just more of
electronic rock, if that makes sense, and the other guys have a softer
contemporary thing going on.

At least I think so. I've been a bit out of that world for a few years and
things have probably changed up some.
